The standard for humanity, so far, is idiocy
And by “idiocy” I mean those people so greedy that it has subsumed their common sense, common decency, empathy, and morality. They fly under the flag of capitalism as a convenient economic and social mechanism for pillaging the Earth and robbing their fellow men and women of money, time, a clean and livable environment, health, and happiness.
American society is a mess.
Is it any wonder people are maxing out their credit cards, not for fancy new cars and big TVs, but to buy groceries and pay rent.
Seventy-eight percent of Americans live paycheck to paycheck. Eight out of ten Americans are economically frail. If they get laid off or have a health or financial emergency, they could easily be ruined. Creditors hound them. They lose their house or get evicted from their apartment. They live on the street, homeless. They turn to drugs. They become one of over one hundred thousand drug overdoses a year in the United States. Twice as many Americans as died in the Vietnam War.
The bitter icing on this shit cake is that the unfortunate structure of capitalism, the complete surrender to neoliberal economics as a sound “science”…
