How do you think They feel about that

Traveling south out of Waco you see biblical sounding towns like Levi, Lott, and Asa. It is the Bible belt. Old Testament. I grew up in this part of Texas. Sold Bibles and Bible study books when I was a kid to pay for a used Dodge convertible and help pay for college.

Harshness. Harsh environment. Harsh plants with thorns you don’t want to mess with. Prickly Pear cactus. Mesquite trees. Bull nettle. The white “fur” on bull nettle goes right through your jeans. It will make you think your leg is on fire.

Biblical events like drought, floods, and pestilence happen here.

The people that live here are Old Testament people. Hard working. Religious. Friendly and insular at the same time.

You must believe in Jesus to get to heaven, but their God is the Old Testament God. Strict. Demanding. Fierce. Vengeful. Not the New Testament God that turns a cheek or loves thy neighbor as thy self even though thy neighbor may be a little different from thy self.

They believe in hellfire and damnation. Laying on of hands. Many of them believe in the Rapture where, in the twinkling of an eye, all believers in Jesus are made whole again and taken to heaven en masse.
