Did Senator John Cornyn Let Slip the True Nature of the Republican Party?
Republican Senator John Cornyn of Texas has recently pointed out in a tweet that previous Democratic presidents have been opposed to more immigration, but Biden “has instead emphasized the humane treatment of immigrants, regardless of their legal status.”
Senator Cornyn may have accidentally let slip the Republican’s real attitudes toward immigrants. And I believe that attitude extends to all those lower class beings — the poor, the non-white, the non-Christian. If we are not to treat these people humanely, obviously his intention would be to treat them inhumanely. Even criminals who have been convicted of crimes are supposed to be treated humanely, although it’s debatable about whether American prisons uphold that principle.
Cornyn would treat inhumanely even those that have not yet been convicted of criminal acts, apparently to teach them a lesson. He wants that inhumane treatment to be held up to the world as a lesson to those that want to cross our borders because, according to his true leader (Trump), “These aren’t people. These are animals.” At least he’s not suggesting we hang their bodies on the fence at the border as a warning like the Mexican cartels do.
This, along with the denials of Republicans that there was no attack on the capital Jan. 6, or that they weren’t really insurrectionists, or that they were Black Antifa, or some other equally bald-faced ’Trumpian’ lie, makes one wonder what plane of morality do Republicans exist on?
The answer is ‘none.’ They have no true moral compass. They will say anything to advance their agendas of power and greed, their twin gods, for them and their constituents, large corporations and the people that own them. Whether intentional or not, Senator Cornyn’s tweet excoriating Biden for his humane treatment of immigrants announces to the world what the Republican mindset really is.
Cornyn is just one of a set of excruciatingly sad examples of Republicans gone wrong that exist down in Texas. Among Senator Ted Cruz, Governor Greg Abbott, Attorney General Ken Paxton, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, and a pirate’s crew of congressmen, Cornyn is one of the smarter ones, although this latest slip reveals he may be losing a step in concealing the true nature of the Republican Party.
If you’ll remember, Greg Abbott thought a Navy Seal / Green Beret training exercise was an Obama plot to take over Texas. He has since made bad judgement calls on pandemic mandates to show what a good Republican he is — at the cost of thousands of lives.
Ted Cruz is…crap, what can anyone say about Ted Cruz. He’s the one that fled to Cancun during the great Texas power outage and deep freeze that left frozen corpses strewn across the state while Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was busy here in Texas raising millions to help out stricken Texans that can’t even vote for her. Al Franken once said of Ted Cruz, “I like Ted Cruz more than most of my other colleagues like Ted Cruz. And I hate Ted Cruz.”
Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick promises every election cycle to help out the poor home owners with their taxes and, once elected, does nothing. The appraisal of property goes up 10 percent a year in Texas like clockwork. It has been doing that for many years. It allows Texas politicians to brag about not having a personal income tax and eat their cake too.
The only reason Ken Paxton is not in prison is because he is the Attorney General of Texas. He even got his wife elected to the state senate to introduce a bill to help him stay out of jail.
Criminals, misfits, ignorant, morally bereft — this describes the Republican Party in Texas. I used to be proud to be Texan. Not anymore. So how do these people get to be elected in Texas? To explain this, let me tell you about a conversation I had with one of my coworkers.
There exists in Texas a Texas Nationalist Movement that is constantly bringing up the possibility of Texas seceding from the United States. This person I worked with was an adherent of this organization’s beliefs and, believe me, he is not the only one. There’s about a half million of them. He was blathering on about how Texas should secede one day and I told him.
“Sam [not his real name], if Texas seceded do you really think the U.S. would go ahead and pay you your social security when you retire? Because the new country of Texas would definitely not.”
Sam said, “Oh, shit! I didn’t think about that.”
And that’s the kind of voter you need to get elected if your running for a Republican political office in Texas — the ones that don’t think a lot. They just react to Facebook memes and crap they hear on the radio and TV from the likes of Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson.
I am not giving up hope. There is a younger voter demographic out there that is a little more savvy, more intellectually honest, less racist, and feels cheated by Republicans giving corporations and the wealthy all the breaks and the poor working stiff none. This group of people need to make their power known by going to the polls and voting a morally bankrupt party out of office. The next elections are in 2022. The Republican Party is working hard to keep you from voting so get prepared. Register now. Perhaps the future can be one where we are all treated humanely.
